- Newspapers are NOT PSB (like the BBC) they are commercial publications.
- Three quarters (77.8%) of the British press is owned by a handful of billionaires. Over a quarter (27.3%) of the press is owned by Lord Rothermere and 24.9% by Rupert Murdoch - between them these two men have over 50 percent of the printed press.
- News papers and their online publications (example of synergy/convergence) are not legally obliged to provide a un-bias public information service.
- There are ethical and moral codes of press conduct but the printed press is self regulatory industry.
In the UK there are 3 ownership models:
- 'Media Barons' - owned by wealthy individuals or proprietors. E.g Rupert Murdoch
- Trusts - a legal arrangement that transfers funds from the owner to a 'trustee' to manage and control the running of the paper. E.g Scott Trust (GMG) The Guardian.
- Cross-media converged conglomerates - global institutes that own numerous media outlets. These may be owned by Media Barons. E.g DMG and Lord Rothermere.

Homework 13/03/20
Explain the demographics of the target audience of Mojo magazine: be as specific as you can and explain the appeal of Mojo to them.
Mojo magazines audience appeals to people of slightly older age and looking at the demographics it appeals to the male gender more. On mojo magazines there is a large image of the main artist. The gender spread of the artists are mainly male. There are females however more males are on the front covers of the magazines. They are usually dark scaled and have colour palettes of around 2-4 colours. Depending on the genre of the magazine will depend on what colour the magazine is. For example on a mojo magazine of Bob Marley who is a reggae artist, the colour palette is white, green, yellow and red. These colours are bright and enthusiastic which can connote reggae. These colours are also used within the Jamaican flag which also tells us the magazine is aimed at people who possibly enjoy reggae music. Mojo magazines are very bright and appealing which attracts the target audience. They represent the target audience very well with their designs of the magazines. When you look at a mojo magazine you can instantly tell which genre it is. This is because of the personalities of the artists on the front and the values and attitudes they have.
