Fresh Snow Alert Sparks travel warning

Drivers have been directed to stay off major roads unless absolutely necessary as a new snow storm approaches southern Scotland and north-east England.
The warning came after hundreds of drivers were stranded overnight on the M74 between Scotland and England.Many drivers were stuck for up to 11 hours on the motorway in South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway after HGVs blocked the lanes.He said the problems on the M74 had been caused by HGVs losing traction in the icy conditions.He also announced that police were upgrading their travel warning from level three to level four.

Scientists took a fresh look at the distribution and physical appearance of patas monkeys in Ethiopia, confirming there were two species rather than one.It was originally described as a separate species in 1862, but was later folded in - incorrectly - with other patas monkeys to form a single species.

The alleged child torture case that shocked the US has raised questions about the ease with which the Turpin family were able to open a private school in their own home.

Police arrested David Turpin and his wife, Louise Anna, after they discovered several of their 13 children "shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks".

Mr Turpin is listed as the principal of Sandcastle Day School, a private school operated out of the family's home in Perris, California, according to the state's Department of Education (CDOE)
